If you are an adult living with crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth, we have an easy way to transform your smile without the need for “classic” metal braces. At our Novi, MI dental practice, we feature both Invisalign and ClearCorrect alternative orthodontic solutions. Neither one relies on brackets or wires, but these treatments are still referred to as “invisible” or “clear” braces. We’ll tell you all about them both in today’s post. The Difference Is Clear

With these great smile solutions, you will simply have to wear a series of clear, plastic aligners instead of clunky metal braces. Since they are transparent, you can wear them without drawing attention to the fact that you are going through an orthodontic overhaul.

This being a discrete process is a big advantage for many of our patients who are well beyond their teenage years. In fact, these kinds of aligners were originally developed with adults in mind. With Invisalign or ClearCorrect, you can feel comfortable and confident wearing your aligners in professional and social situations.

What Are They Good For?

In general, aligners are primarily a good option for patients with mild or moderate alignment issues. That said, many patients fall into these categories, and clear aligners have been proven to fix a number of alignment problems, such as: crooked teeth, gaps between teeth, crowded teeth, open bites, crossbites, underbites, overbites, etc.

But Wait, There’s More

There are some real benefits that both Invisalign and ClearCorrect offer when compared to traditional braces.

You can take them out whenever you need to.

Anyone with braces will tell you they would love to be able to take them off for a couple hours each day. But, alas, they are chained to their hardware without any respite for 2-3 long years.

However, with Invisalign and ClearCorrect, you can do just that: take a little break every now and again. As long as you are wearing them most of the time, you’ll be able to stay on track.

Everything is on the menu.

A big hassle that comes with wearing braces is that you are supposed to steer clear of certain foods. There is a logical reason for this. Foods that are hard and/or crunchy can get trapped in the wires or cause the brackets to become loose. Chewy and sticky foods will be off-limits as well. After all, they can tug on your wires, or they can lead to complications when you try to clean them out from between your wires and your teeth.

By contrast, with clear aligners, you simply remove your gear while you are breaking bread. What’s more, you can clean your teeth and your aligners after your meal before putting it back in your mouth. You basically brush and floss the way you did before.

We won’t be seeing you for in-office adjustments along the way.

Listen, we aren’t going to sugar-coat it. It is downright painful for patients in the days immediately after their braces are adjusted. Unfortunately, that’s just part of the deal. And every couple of weeks, for two to three years, braces will need to be tightened to keep your teeth moving in the right way.

You can forget about that with clear aligners. Instead, you will just need to change your aligner out at home every couple weeks.
